Senior Vice President Wei Qiurui, spokesperson of COMPAL women action, partnered with Hsu Chauing Social Welfare Charity Foundation to support the film of "Hyllobiid is Coming". COMPAL colleagues were invited to bring their families to learn about the prehistoric mythical beast - Taiwanese salamander and celebrate the Goddess Day.

Following the Black Bear is Coming in 2020, COMPAL colleagues acted again in 2023 to support "Hyllobiid is Coming". On March 7~8, they shall meet the unique species of Taiwan - five species of hyllobiid! Director Mai Jue-Ming shall share the event, and Director General Hong of the Hsu Chauing Social Welfare Charity Foundation and his wife and Director General Wang also attended to support the event.

As Director Mai introduced at the beginning, “It’s special. It’s important. But it’s hard to discover.”

Global warming and man-made ecological damage has reduced their living space much. At present, the five species of hyllobiid exist only in Taiwan all around the world.

Taiwan hyllobiid is small in shape, and it’s hard to be shot, because the species mostly live in mountains with altitude over 2,000m. Scholars and research teams carefully turned over the stones in high mountains piece by piece to detect the trace of hyllobiid. Since 2006, researchers passed their missions on through three generations till today, and finally we can get a glimpse of the living and growing process of hyllobiid-Taiwan Hynobius Formosanus.

Professor Lu Guang-Yang from Biology Department of National Taiwan Normal University discovered the first hyllobiid in his life in Ali Mountain 44 years ago. Director Mai Jue-Ming spent 17 years recording and filming with the steps of research teams, and finally fulfilled Dr. Lai Jun-Hsiang’s dream, who accidentally fell the cliff in his investigation on hyllobiid in the east ridge of Chilai Mount 7 years ago, that is to let hyllobiid be seen by people. Great thanks to Professor Chu You-Ming and the research team, who are still continuing the tracing and investigation of hyllobiid among deep mountains. We are studying Taiwan-specific hyllobiid in our own land.

Many colleagues brought children to watch this film together, and let's implement the protection of native habitat and biodiversity into the action of developing sustainable environment with no trace in mountains and forests, and pass it on to generations and generations.

COMPAL and HCI Foundation shall continue to care for the earth with love, attach importance to gender equality, protect native species and promote the 17 sustainability goals of the SDGs.
