In 2025, COMPAL is partnering with the Kaohsiung Public Library on an ESG rural reading public-benefit initiative, sponsoring the Shanlin Branch’s program “Reading Journey in Shanlin.”
On September 16, the Kaohsiung Public Library mobile library bus traveled to Banan Tribal Elementary and Junior High School with the Hanji Story Theatre Troupe for a wonderful performance. We hope every child enjoyed the joyful reading journey.
Through this ESG mobile reading collaboration, and under the leadership of the Shanlin Branch, the program has successively visited Xinzhuang Elementary School and Shangping Elementary School during the summer vacation. In August, we also joined students at Shanlin Elementary School in opening books together to explore the future. With immersive live theatre and interactive performances, we hope to inspire children to take initiative in their own learning and to discover the joy of reading.

As part of the COMPAL x Kaohsiung Public Library ESG rural reading initiative “Reading Journey in Shanlin,” and to help local residents better understand the history, culture, and ecology of their community, the event “Through the Time Tunnel – Secrets of the Thomson Historic Trail” was held on September 23.
Guided by professional instructors and echoing the goal of net-zero carbon emissions, participants hiked along a century-old trail connecting Indigenous and Hakka settlements, walking from Shanlin to Liugui just as residents did a hundred years ago, while learning about mountain landscapes, local flora and fauna, and the blending of ecological and cultural heritage.
Let’s open the pages together, broaden our horizons, and step into a wider world.
Let’s also travel low-carbon, discover local history, and get closer to nature and its ecosystems.
