To promote the conservation of blue carbon ecosystems and to foster environmental education from an early age, COMPAL is committed to raising awareness of wetland ecosystems and their vital role as carbon sinks in greenhouse gas reduction. In 2025, COMPAL partnered with the Taipei Birdwatching Association to sponsor four “Aquatic Families” wetland environmental education programs held at Guandu Nature Park.
A total of 128 students from Xingfu Elementary School (New Taipei City), Luofu Elementary School (Taoyuan), Sankeng Elementary School, and Yong’an Elementary School participated in the program. Accompanied by their teachers, the students engaged in hands-on learning activities designed to deepen their understanding of wetland environments and biodiversity.
With their extensive knowledge and engaging teaching methods, volunteer educators from the Taipei Birdwatching Association at Guandu Nature Park guided the children in exploring aquatic plants and wildlife within the park. The students observed pond ecosystems, wetland bird species, and the movements and foraging behaviors of birds, gaining firsthand insight into the richness of wetland ecology.
The adopted in 2022 under the Convention on Biological Diversity, calls on countries to ensure that at least 30% of terrestrial and 30% of marine areas are effectively conserved by 2030 through the designation of protected areas or the establishment of Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs).
Wetlands play a critical role in providing habitats for diverse species, purifying water, maintaining ecological balance, preserving biodiversity, and conserving genetic resources. Through its ongoing commitment to environmental and ecological education, COMPAL organizes annual outdoor learning programs and volunteer activities focused on wetland and biodiversity conservation. By enriching learning experiences for people of all ages, COMPAL joins hands with society to work toward a sustainable future for the planet and a better quality of life.
