As the world accelerates toward carbon reduction, the circular economy has emerged as a core pillar of the new industrial revolution—and COMPAL is proud to be a frontrunner in this transformation.
Recognizing that no company can drive sustainability alone, COMPAL emphasizes collaborative resilience and sustainability across the supply chain as key to long-term business success. In February and April 2025, CommonWealth Magazine featured in-depth interviews with COMPAL and its strategic partner, Framework—highlighting how their cooperation is transforming traditional notebook design with repairability and sustainability in mind.

¢ Building a Circular Supply Chain
COMPAL actively co-develops sustainable materials with its suppliers. Innovative use of tea waste to create plant-based leather and oyster shells to craft notebook casings are just two examples. To date, COMPAL has developed over 30 types of eco-friendly materials and adopted a fully modular design for notebooks—enhancing product disassembly, repairability, and reuse.
¢ Co-Creation Through Workshops
Mr. Steven Huang, Vice President of R&D at COMPAL, noted:
“Since the pandemic, every visiting international client has specifically requested advanced eco-friendly materials.”
To meet this demand, COMPAL holds circular economy workshops with supply chain partners to explore sustainable development solutions. These gatherings go beyond knowledge sharing—they represent genuine alignment of values and a collective commitment to shaping a sustainable future.
¢ Collaboration and Innovation
VP Huang emphasized that only with strong, trusted supply chain partners can modular, repairable design be fully realized.
“Volumes may be small today, but with the rise of the circular trend, we will become collaborative problem-solvers.”
Despite challenges, COMPAL and its suppliers remain committed to exploring and implementing sustainable design solutions.

The Framework laptop, manufactured by COMPAL, is the world’s only fully repairable and upgradeable notebook. Founder Nirav Patel visited Taiwan in February and shared his vision with CommonWealth Magazine: a computer that consumers can disassemble and fix using just the screwdriver included in the box.
Mr. Andy Lee, Senior Vice President of COMPAL’s Global PC Business Group and Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer, commented:
“COMPAL participated in both the design and production of Framework. It was a valuable opportunity for us to showcase our R&D and manufacturing capabilities and to rethink the meaning of ‘design.’ Beyond function and aesthetics, we began to focus on environmental impact—designing not just for use, but for longevity and potential rebirth.”
This shift benefits both COMPAL’s teams and the broader effort toward net-zero emissions.
By engaging deeply with sustainability-driven clients and stakeholders, COMPAL is transforming not only how we design and manufacture products, but also how we think about the entire value chain. These valuable experiences fuel our organizational innovation, moving us toward a more responsible, forward-looking corporate culture and positioning us as an active participant in the global sustainability movement.
At COMPAL, we care for the environment, serve society, and uphold ESG goals—continuing our journey toward a shared sustainable future with the world.
