On August 21, COMPAL Electronics Executive Vice President Eric Peng was interviewed by Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA), sharing COMPAL’s long-term vision for contributing to society, the challenges of crossing over into the “blue ocean” of healthcare, and the opportunities and hurdles in smart healthcare.

Unlike traditional electronics, the core of healthcare is not cost, but quality and service. Against the backdrop of rapidly rising global medical demand—driven by population aging, shortages of medical resources, and the profound changes brought about by the pandemic - COMPAL has only become more determined to develop its smart healthcare business.

COMPAL is transforming from a traditional electronics ODM into a smart healthcare provider, entering a highly specialized, long-cycle, and heavily regulated industry. By deploying AI, hardware, and platforms in a multi-pronged strategy, the company aims to open new growth curves for its healthcare product business.

1. Focusing on the Core Values of Healthcare

COMPAL is actively transforming through the development of AI healthcare applications and devices, with the goal of delivering the highest quality and best service.

To do so, the company must navigate long medical product development cycles and build cross-disciplinary teams that span biomedical engineering, life sciences, chemistry, and regulatory affairs, cultivating talent over the long term to earn the trust of physicians and hospitals.

2. AI Smart Healthcare Product Portfolio

  • Handheld ultrasound: Positioned between high-end diagnostic systems and basic point-of-care tools, targeting use in ambulances and rural/remote healthcare settings.
  • AI cardiovascular angiography system: Developed in collaboration with Chi Mei Hospital, enabling one-click lesion annotation.
  • Ventilators: Already certified and on the market, with expansion into Japan and the U.S. underway.
  • Hearing aids: Integrated with Bluetooth technology to effectively resolve interference issues between traditional hearing aids and smartphones.
  • Smart massage beds: Deployed in hundreds of chain hotels and fitness centers in the United States, entering the professional massage and wellness market.

3. Building a Dual-Track Approach: Ecosystem Platforms and Core Technologies

  • “iCare” long-term care information platform: Serves 3,000+ home care agencies, with an estimated 70% market share.
  • Cloud-based AI medical platform: Helps onboard different AI algorithms and lowers the barrier for hospitals to adopt AI solutions.
  • AI + quantum computing: Applies AI and quantum computing to drug discovery, helping CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) pharma partners improve process efficiency.

Leveraging its strong foundations in hardware manufacturing and software development, COMPAL has launched a series of AI-powered smart healthcare products, seeking to approach the market from multiple angles. The company is taking solid steps to establish clinical references and sales track records in Taiwan first, before expanding internationally.

Although the journey is challenging, COMPAL has chosen to shoulder this responsibility—hoping that, beyond breakthroughs in technological innovation, it can also bring long-term health and well-being to society.
