Compal Electronics (Compal; Stock Code: 2324), in collaboration with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), has recently completed a successful field verification of end-to-end communication using ground equipment as the core. A stable long-distance communication link was established in a real-world environment, fully validating the critical role of ground equipment in real-time air-to-ground communications.
This test, conducted in a real-world setting, confirmed that the core technologies transferred from ITRI to Compal—including baseband transceiver, beam acquisition and tracking, and system integration—have officially moved out of the laboratory and into practical application. Even in complex electromagnetic environments, the system maintained a connection success rate of over 99% with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and end-to-end latency remained below the 100-millisecond level, demonstrating robust real-time communication capabilities and clear potential for commercialization. The results showed that the ground equipment could achieve beam locking in a short time and maintain stable link quality during long-term continuous operation, effectively verifying its long-term stability in complex communication environments. This achievement demonstrates that Compal’s ground equipment possesses mature system integration capabilities and practical application potential and can further support diverse scenarios such as real-time UAV monitoring, long-distance inspection, disaster response communications, and communication relay.
Looking ahead, Mr. JS Liang, Vice President of Compal’s Smart Device Business Group, stated: “Compal will continue to collaborate with ITRI to deepen key technologies for ground equipment, promote longer-distance and higher-reliability communication applications, further strengthen Taiwan’s R&D capabilities in air-to-ground communication and system integration, and lay a solid foundation for industry implementation and international market expansion.”
