2025 COMPUTEX Compal, Mackay Memorial Hospital, and National Pingtung University Announce Strategic Partnership to Advance AI- and Quantum-Inspired Precision Medicine

Compal Electronics (Compal; Stock Ticker: 2324.TW) announced today the signing of a strategic memorandum of understanding with Mackay Memorial Hospital and National Pingtung University. The three parties will jointly advance a range of innovative projects, including Artificial Intelligence and quantum-inspired algorithms for precision medicine, clinical-inspired computational disease models, and integrated pediatric X-ray systems. Mackay Memorial Hospital will also leverage its newly established NVIDIA B200 computing infrastructure to accelerate large-scale data analysis and improve clinical diagnosis and treatment workflows.

Mackay Memorial Hospital has long focused on integrating AI to optimize clinical operations.  Notable outcomes include the AI-powered inpatient scheduling system and dynamic thoracic imaging technologies. Through this new partnership with Compal, the hospital aims to integrate NVIDIA Clara and platforms with quantum-inspired computing - Compal GPU Annealer and NVIDIA CUDA-Q, to address the challenge of multiple local minima in discrete spaces, which helps physicians with personalized precision medicine. In addition, the hospital will work with the College of Computer Science at National Pingtung University to develop an integrated pediatric X-ray system. Leveraging NVIDIA MONAI, the system will feature automated image annotation and conversational AI capabilities, delivering safer, faster, and more user-friendly diagnostic experiences for children.

Eric Peng, Executive Vice President of Compal, commented “Compal has years of experience in high-performance computing and smart system integration. By partnering with Mackay Memorial Hospital, we’re combining our technological strengths in AI and quantum-inspired computing with Mackay’s clinical resources. This collaboration ensures real-world applications of innovation, and we look forward to jointly delivering both clinical and technical outcomes.”

“Through this collaboration, we are actively incorporating AI into medical services, including virtual assistant systems and the digital transformation of electronic medical records to enhance healthcare efficiency and diagnostic precision,” said Dr. Wen-Han Chang, Superintendent of Mackay Memorial Hospital. “.

This agreement also builds on Compal’s existing relationship with National Pingtung University, with whom they jointly established a Quantum Computing Center in 2024, to provide regional leadership in  quantum innovation.  Dr. Chia-Ho Ou, Dean of the College of Computer Science, noted “This collaboration between National Pingtung University, Mackay Memorial Hospital, and Compal Electronics brings together strong academic and industrial R&D capabilities. Not only can we establish Taiwan as a key leader in quantum technology and enhance international reputation, but we can also accelerate the real-world application of advanced AI and quantum-inspired computing in healthcare, generating broader societal benefits.”
