TAIPEI, Taiwan - Since 2020, Compal Electronics, a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, started to develop 5G and Smart Internet of Vehicle solutions. On September 6th, the company announced its smart railroad-related services which are 5G real-time transmission, C-V2X wireless connecting technology, and AI image recognition technology. These are all integrated with the international standard of 3GPP to build a “5G smart railroad safety alarm and decision-making system”. It uses advanced communication and Digital Twin technology to increase the railroad safety and stimulate the smart transportation technology and service innovation.

The system contains three main products including a roadside control unit, car load alarm unit, and maintenance alarm unit to connect trains, railroad, level crossing, maintain work shift, and digital twin platform. Meanwhile, it can provide detection and security prewarming services for crossing warnings, rail safety warnings, and railway train collision warnings.

In the railroad anti-crossing alarm system, Compal Electronics uses AI image recognition and LiDar fusion detecting technology to comply with full-day monitoring. While detecting objects entering or staying in the field of the railroad, the system will issue a warning message and real-time image to inform the train drivers and digital twin platform that is two kilometers away for increasing the safety of trains, passengers, and pedestrians.

In the track industrial safety warning, it is through the warning device carried by the railway maintenance personnel. When the train enters the warning distance, a notification will be issued to remind the train driver to pay attention and the maintenance personnel to avoid the occurrence of industrial safety accidents.

Finally, in terms of collision warning of railway trains, when two cars approach and enter the warning distance, the system will send out a warning message to remind the driver to avoid a collision.
